How You Will Benefit from the How To Talk So Kids Will Listen™ Intro Workshop

The goal of this workshop is to introduce you to some practical, effective methods of communication that will make your relationship with children of all ages less stressful and more rewarding. We will touch upon these areas in this intro workshop:

1. Helping Children Deal With Their Feelings: Ways to accept children's feelings, limit unacceptable behavior, and still maintain goodwill.
2. Engaging Cooperation: Five ways to invite cooperation that will leave parents and children feeling good about themselves and each other.
3. Alternatives to Punishment: Alternatives to punishment that enable parents to express their strong disapproval as well as encourage children to assume responsibility for their behavior.
4. Encouraging Autonomy: Ways to help children become separate, responsible people who can one day function on their own.
5. Praise: An exploration of the kinds of praise that build a positive and realistic self image-and the kinds that do not.
6. Freeing Children from Playing Roles: Skills that you can use to help children see themselves in a different and more positive light.

Book Drive

Promising Pages ( is a nonprofit organization that collects donated books and distributes them to children with few, if any, books at home. Our mission is to provide ownership of books to under served children and cultivate a lifelong love of reading through innovative literacy programs and partnerships. Fueled by studies showing that children who can’t read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school, Promising Pages provides direct classroom programming and more than 150,000 free books annually, making us Charlotte’s largest and most efficient distributor of upcycled books aimed at addressing this critical – and solvable – community need.

We will be collecting new and gently used children's books at interNational Nanny Training Day to donate to Promising Pages. For every 2 books you bring in, you will receive 1 raffle ticket to have the chance to win one of our fabulous prizes that have been donated. Raffle tickets will also be on sale for $1 each. All proceeds will be donated to the Promising Pages organization.

You will also have the opportunity to sign up to volunteer at the Promising Pages headquarters on May 9th, 2020 from 11:00am to 1:00pm to help process the book donations we receive. Afterwards, we will all join together at Brewers at 4001 Yancey for lunch.
